THE VERY FIRST AUTOMATIC POP UP TOASTER EVER MADE
THIS IS THE TOASTMASTER 1-A-1. THE FIRST AUTOMATIC POP UP TOASTER EVER MADE. IT IS FROM 1926. THE SERIAL # IS 449082 SO I DON'T KNOW WHERE IT FIT IN PRODUCTION BUT IT IS THE FIRST MODEL.
IT IS IN OUTSTANDING CONDITION FOR 90 YEARS OLD. THE OUTSIDE CHROME IS BEAUTIFUL. THERE ARE A FEW PLACES WHERE METAL IS SHOWING THROUGH BUT NOT READILY EVIDENT. THE BAKELITE IS PERFECT. IT HAS 2 LEVERS AND 2 OTHER CONTROLS. YOU PULL OUT ON A SILVER KNOB AND ADJUST THE TIME FOR LIGHT OR DARK. THEN PUSH DOWN ON THE BAKELITE LEVER ON THE RIGHT TO START THE CLOCK MECHANISM. NEXT PUSH DOWN ON THE BAKELITE LEVER ON THE LEFT TO PUSH THE BREAD DOWN AND TURN ON THE CURRENT. THE TIMER TICKS AND TOCKS AS THE RIGHT LEVER RAISES SLOWLY UNTIL IT GETS TO THE TOP THEN THE LEFT LEVER AND THE TOAST POPS UP. Sooo Cool.
Charles Perkins Strite
was the man in Stillwater, Minnesota who paired a clockworks timer and
set of carbon contacts together with heating elements to cook both
sides of a slice of bread at once AUTOMATICALLY, without turning or
burning as with the manual, fold-down-door models. It became a popular
product when it hit the home market in 1926 as The Toastmaster. It was deemed
one of the greatest all-time inventions according to American Heritage
and the millions of people who adore their old Toastmaster.
This Beautiful example of American Ingenuity is in excellent working condition with the original cloth cord with no frays. It looks Gorgeous.
